Have a favorite band? Favorite genre? Favorite artist? Bring it here, and discuss.

I'd like to open up on early Grunge Genre/ and Punk Rock. What are you're views on both of them? Personally, I think it was a time when Music was at its peak. Now today's music is s*it. Most of it anyways.

I won't say all, or even a lot, of today's music is crap, but I will say that I love punk and grunge almost entirely. Those genres were all about bare-bones music; trim the fat and go straight to the meat. Some monumental statements were made when Kurt Cobain would intentionally ruin solos because he hated the fame he got, and when Pearl Jam stopped touring because they couldn't charge dirt cheap prices for tickets anymore.

Led Zeppelin...Pink Floyd...Hendrix...the Beatles...the Who...truly the golden age of music.
The music of the 60's/70's influenced just about every band that came after. No one could argue against that, I think.

Some of the undoubtedly best musicians ever came from this era.

Then you're missing the Pistols, Ramones and Clash of course.

Linkin Park, limp bizcuit, saliva, seether, puddle of mudd etc etc, and a lot of random trance, hardstyle, DnB and breakbeats.

The Clash
The Descendents
Rancid
The Ramones
The Casualties
The Misfits
Wednesday 13
Blink 182
Tim Armstrong

These are just a few of the greatest, in my book.

Oh yes, of course The Doors. And Wolf nailed some of the other great musicians in history. The 60s through the 80s, in my opinion, set the bar for how music, especially rock, should be. And the bands that do the rock name justice now include some of the ones that Nervegas mentioned. (I just saw Seether with Papa Roach and Staind in November. Awesome show!) And Slippy covered a good portion of the punk rock greats. I'm especially glad he mentioned Rancid and Tim Armstrong, because they are to punk what the Pistols, Ramones and Clash were to it many years ago. But now I absolutely cannot let the Chili Peppers go unmentioned. If there was to be a list of bands considered to be the coveted "superbands", where each member is nothing less than proprietor of raw talent, then the Chili Peppers would definitely have to be on there.

I like light rock (no heavy metal stuff) and action techno (music that changes, not just a steady unchanging beat for 10 minutes)

The Doors, Johnny Cash, Radiohead(a little), and Journey all make my ten-list. And a lot of the decent sort of Country/Bluegrass, which I won't begin to list to avoid flaming cabbages.

So far I dont think I like any of the musicians listed :-D

My taste for music is too European, I suppose.

I like listening to this one Korean rapper named Verseatile, his music is pretty good. It's not the stereo-typical rap involving drugs, guns, and killing people though more on the personal side. Same with another artist named K'naan, well, I liked his newer album rather than his older albums.

Radiohead - In Rainbows
Johnny Cash - At San Quentin (Awesome)
The Doors - L.A. Woman, Strange Days
N.E.R.D. - Seeing Sounds
Tears for Fears - Songs From the Big Chair
Blondie - Best of Blondie
Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
Goldfrapp - Black Cherry
That is pretty much all I'm listening to right at the moment =].

I don't like The Ramone's though because its just like powercord and powercord =/.

Btw, Justin Timberlake is a good musician, etc. No need to bash because he was in a man-lovin' band :)

da*n, you all have good taste! Tank, my roommate just got me into De La Soul. He's the s*it!

Also, has anybody heard/liked Asher Roth's stuff? He's a rapper from PA, fresh out of college. He's best known for his song "I Love College" (which isn't actually that good in my opinion), but his other stuff is also very commendable. You can check him out at thedailykush.com.

My friend got me listening to his stuff, because apparently Asher partied at his apartment last year before he got big, so now my friend is like his unofficial promoter. But anyway, I really like his stuff now, so check it out if ya like.

I like a lil bit o' everything:
The Irish Tenors (Oh holy night, Danny boy!)
The Aquabats (Look at me I'm a Winner, Super rad)
Queen (Don't stop me now, Bohemian Rhapsody)
Edgar Cruz (Youtube him, he plays all the parts of a song [vocals, lead guitar, rhythm guitar] by himself on his classical guitar)
Green Day (Good riddance)
Vivaldi
Jimi Hendrix
The Foundations (Build me up buttercup)
CCR (Bad moon rising)
The Who (Blue, red, and grey)

Basicaly I like any music, with the exception of a majority of rap and hip-hop.

I dont like metal, dont like rap, very rarely do rock songs get my attention either.

I prefer orchestra music :-D (Sweeney Todd ftw)

Of course, on the opposite end of the spectrum, I strangely liked Basshunter, which kinda freaked me out.

I can also get caught humming the tunes in "Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog" though.

Slipknot isn't even metal in my book anymore. They sold out, and are pussies now. They used to be so da*n hardcore. Then Corey fucked up when they made Vol. 3 and ruined his voice. He then left for Stone sour, and fucked up even more by bringing too much of the alternative genre to Slipknot. And to top it all off, they got shittier making things like "Psycho Social". I'd love to say I'm a "Maggot", but not anymore. f**k new Shitknot, and all they stand for. The real Slipknot died in 2003.
