I and many others kind of get frustrated from people metagaming and knowing people's names and jobs. So I propose editing the Harbu source make it so that when you walk up to them, their name says Unknown or something and job says unknown. Then, there would be two commands (/meet and /askjob) to request to know their name. If they accept, you can walk up to them and it will display whatever you asked them. There would also be delay between asking people to prevent running around and spamming it or forcing people to say yes.

In the event you would want to CK your dude, there would be an admin command amx_ckill that would reset all the "do they know him" boolean values to false. Format would be amx_ckill name and it would ask for confirmation.

From my very limited programming experience, this would all be possible. If everyone's too lazy to code this, I suggest to at least remove the "show_hudmessage(players[i],"Job: %s",job)" bit from the Harbu source. Forgive me or correct me if I'm wrong about any of my assumptions.

Yeah, there was a version of this in Remo roleplay a while ago. I support it.

I think that that still might lead to metagaming of a different sort. People who refuse to say "Yes" to the ask job query might find themselves the target of police because clearly they must be a criminal if they don't tell cops what their job is.

Bah. Just remove the job showing altogether if that's a problem.

We've tried this before, to no avail, for some reason. But I'll always support it. However, no extra commands or anything should be added. The name and job title just need to be removed.

Names are handy though since lots of people use the same model. For example if I'm dealing with a cop on the Mafia payroll, I want to make sure I am in fact talking to him. Without being able to see his name, since all cops use officer11 I might walk up to Jameson instead and be like "Ok here's you money" and get arrested. No jobs would be nice though.

Ok, I'll agree with that, especially since most people look like "gordon" to me. But yes, no job titles would be wonderful.

No I was saying if I was dealing with someone else and because Jameson uses officer11 like all 18357189379 other cops I might try to pay him off instead and he'd be like "WTF ARREST!" and I'd be sad.

Adding commands such as that may turn into anarchy rather than preserve some roleplay, you gotta think of all the abusers and the stupid people who wouldn't be able to comprehend why that was put into place. Plus, Nuker's too lazy to code something as little as that. :D

Providing plugins to cure the ills of user roleplaying skills is, like so many Government-mandated programs, a good idea on paper, and pure fail in practice. If someone is metagaming, call them out on it, stick it in their face, and refuse to take their s*it. Simple? Simple. I have a feeling removing Job-titles, removing names, any of that would cause more problems than anyone can yet fathom-- and the fact the idea, or some incarnation of it came from Remo's Server ought to tell you enough.

I feel your pain though, Moe. Just don't take no meta-gaming shenanigans; Good roleplayers like yourself are the only real cure.

I still say getting rid of the job title is a good idea. What harm can come from that? And you said it yourself, Praphet, plug-ins don't alleviate problems. Getting rid of the job title is just an act of nullifying part of one of those plug-ins.

Apparently Don Punch found out how to hook the client's name from being shown, and disabling the job being shown is as easy as commenting out 20ish lines.
