Today at 1:36 a.m. GMT North Korea tested a nuclear weapon, then announced it to the world.

The UN held a emergency meeting at which the United States, South Korea, Japan, China, Russia, and the European Union all agreed that North Korea was out of line, and something should be done.

The full story along with President Bush's reaction can be found at: http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/asiapcf/1 ... index.html

What does everything think about this?

Personally I think they are just showing off their new toys, trying to make a name for themselves. Plus (No offence to any of them) but if they nuke us, they will get fucked over beyond all comprehension and they should know that, they will be completely obliterated if they pull s*it with them.

We don't have enough man-power in the military to split our forces between Iraq and North Korea. =/

Nukes can be launched from more than land-based weapons.

O man. I smell big conspirancy. First of all, don't believe in everything you hear. Secondly, don't care. Why shoud USA have no nuclear weapons and no t other countries? Dosen't make any sense.

False.

In a conventional war we would be able to succeed. Iraq/Vietnam you will find were very unconventional battles. There were not two clear cut sides in either case. Civilians got involved, guerilla warfare tactics, and military personnel dressing as civilians are not something easy to fight. It doesn't matter what kind of training you have or experience, this stuff is not able to be countered on using a military mindset.

However, NK would have to declare conventional warfare and many countries would call NK on it. I doubt the UN could ignore a war declaration from NK.

NK is in the worst possible position to use anything other than diplomatic pressure with its nuke.

I personally think we should just bomb North Korea regardless of the fact that they are a threat to the surrounding Asian countries. Let's face it, if we allow them to continue with their research, eventually they will have the range to hit us. And by then we'll be too late and it'll be another race for nuclear arms.

I say bomb 'em now and never worry about them again, rather than let them go on hoping they won't make a move.

Don't get me wrong, innocent people will die, but would you rather innocent Californians die? Or innocent Koreans? I have Korean friends, but come on. A tablet of prevention is worth a syringe of a cure. Or something among those lines...
