Just today, around 6:00 PM, my computer started receiving popups saying that my computer was infected with viruses. I'm currently running a spyware search, but it is as slow as hell.

To make things worse, I've got this popup that is stuck in my toolbar, and won't let me remove it.

If anybody can tell me how to stop these popups, please tell me. It would be very much appreciated.

I also need a method of getting rid of any trojans that might actually exist.

Popups saying your computer is infected with a virus are stupid ads trying to get you to buy software.

However, I am not saying your computer is virus free. If you do not have anti-virus I would highly suggest you go to a store and buy anti-virus software.

Currently I've downloaded two different programs to try and help solve the problem. I've downloaded a spyware scan program, hopefully to get rid of the popups and another one for a virus scan. Probably not free forever, but they'll last for a little while.

I'm also still trying to download photoshop...

Avast stopped working and refuses to reinstall, so I'm going to go with the second antivirus suggestion.

So far, thats the best freakin idea I've heard so far, being as two antivirus programs have failed to work properly.

I just need to know how to backup the files so that I don't lose them in the reformat.

Also, because I've got no effective method of finding the viruses, I can't tell if the files I want to save are infected or not...

-_-

That only backups the GCFs.

Thats a good idea. RAR up the .GCFs and then rar up the mods you want inside:

\Steam\steamapps\ACCOUNT\half-life\

like \Steam\steamapps\ACCOUNT\half-life\ts\

Or get an external hardrive put the files you wanna keep on it, and format, then put em back. You dont need to get a massive one, maby a 7-10gb one, depending on how much you want to save.
