Thats what you think, think about it, your account has the game on it, and you didn't buy through steam and you never registered a valid cd-key to it. Its pretty easy to find those things.

... its not like they will search all of the accounts in the steam network... that would take forever!! and people would get all bitchy and send a butt load of emails to the custimer service address.... i'm pretty sure that if hubert can do it then he will be safe.

um hello.. over 100,000 accounts banned cause of people doing that.... don't remember?

Plus anyone like Valve would use a program.
