So just a question that came up earlier and would like resolved.

I had a verbal exchange with a person that was resisting orders from the police and swat (orders to leave a certain part of town) and was actually with the person for quite a while. Then the person comes back with different clothes and I tell him to leave once again as I request backup and say that he had been there before and was suspicious and posing a threat. Some called it metagaming, i do not however but would like more opinions. I say that after the decently lengthed verbal exchange I feel that I could see the person's face and pick them out again no matter what clothes they wore or if there were facial hair or not. So i do not consider it metagaming, however others claim that it was. My case is that after talking with someone for even 5 minutes, if i leave, change clothes and immediately return, they will recognize me, even if i have newly grown facial hair somehow, or a hat, a person's basic facial features are recognizable as well as a voice unless consciously masked. So my question... Was it metagaming?

I personally don't think it's metagaming. I do think that it is powergaming for the other person however. You do not just walk away and walk back magically with entirely different facial features and clothes. He should have at least RPed placing on the clothes and/or shave or whatever he wanted to be done. But then again, not many people know how to model/re-skin models to customize it to their needs, so most of us are stuck with the already-made models. Not much we can do on this type of situation, however. But if you talked up close to him, you should be able to recognize his face. However, if you only caught a glimpse of him from far away and he changes clothes, you shouldn't be able to recognize him.

i agree, the is NO way that that could possibly be metagaming, he was talking to someone for a long time and was probally taking note of distinctive facial features in can the guy came back, in which case he could arrest the guy. Now, im not saying that the guys just couldnt leave and change clothes, thats perfectly acceptable, even shaving, that would be ok too, although if youre that desperate to break the law you might as well put on a mask. the is NO WAY IN HELL that that could be metagaming, as the person who trained him, i know i tought him to make sure that he takes note of any facial features.

I concur.

Growing tons of facial hair in moments is considered powergaming, good luck going out a full beard and changing clothes in an instant

However, you get into your apartment or whatever, and change into a different clothing. Thats fine. Its up to the police to notice if its the same person.

Now with this... is how the police report crimes.. the man with the red shirt and brown hair committed a crime

OR

Person Name A committed a crime.

This is where the fine line is, due to models and some people may not have a particular one.

I personally don't think it's metagaming, but this is why I always change my name for things like this.

Whoever said it was metagaming should quit roleplaying if they honestly believe that, and I hope they read this for that very reason.

It's insanely annoying for PD, there's one person in particular that does it quite frequently (I'm not stating who), but I will be in mid-pursuit and the person will hide lets say..behind the sign beside the ammo shop. I will run over there, and the suspect be the only possible person to commit the crime, as he was the only one on the street at the time. I will stop the suspect as they try to run and catch them, then I am accused for metagaming as the person was the ONLY possible suspect at the scene. (a second or two passed after the suspect got behind the sign) Now, who is the one that metagamed in this scenario?

I suggest issuing bans for such behavior as they are just wasting admin time when there is so much more valuable things you could be doing with it, such as helping a new player get a job.
