| Post subject: | Broken HL1 mods |
HL1 and mods for it don't work for me. It happened after I changed 'run in a window' to stop. It said the thing will now run in software mode. Now, whenever I try to launch a HL1 program, it gets stuck at a blackscreen and i have to ctrl+alt+delete. Help? |

1. Open Steam 2. Go to the My Games tab 3. Right-click the game which needs to be reconfigured 4. Select Properties from the menu 5. Click the Set launch options... button 6. Place this in the box: -gl -w 800 -full 7. Launch the game, reset your settings back to how you like it and exit the game. 8. Do steps 1-5 again, when you get to 6 remove anything that's in that box and click ok. |

When I do that, it still says video mode change failure, and it then runs in software mode. No fix at all. Any other tips? |

When I click it, the game launches, but then stays as a black screen without the main menu showing up. |

this happened to me...instead of trying to join a server regularly launch it and try and guess where the options thing will be. For me it brought it up and i was able to change it in game. |

For me it brought it up and i was able to change it in game. It comes up on task manager as not responding, so the menu probably doesn't come up anyway even with the black screen. |

Do what Jameson said, except for the launch options put this: "-dxlevel 90" This forces HL1 into using DirectX rather than "Software" or OpenGL. |

Last resort - Copy your TS folder to somewhere else to back it up, uninstall half life, reinstall, run half life, exit and then place your TS folder inside your half life folder. |
