Post subject:  Problem, of course

I try to connect to any server on any STEAM game (at least the ones I've tried) and I get kicked out of the entire game after a short duration. In Nukesilo, I usually get kicked around 5 or 6 seconds of spawn time. Today, I did make it in temporarily, and it didn't kick me out of the game, even gave me a warning message, but I wasn't able to read it. Any clues, anybody?

Do you have IE7B2 installed? AKA Internet Explorer 7 or Windows Vista?

My troubles with the game rage on...

Some updates in the case: I have had somewhat the same problem in DoD, only it has not closed the entire game on me. I am sometimes able to play for a minute or so on the TSRP server, but I still get kicked out, sometimes out of the server, sometimes out of the game. I tried reinstalling TS, and changing my character model like LLLL suggested, but they did not fix the problem. I also got an error message once tonight, while attempting to play on the server. It was something like CL_Parse_Version server protocol is 23489 (or some number like that) not 47.

Answer

Known Causes
    * Most common: Bad or outdated router firmware (client-side)
    * Less common: Bad or outdated router firmware (server-side)

If your connection to most servers fails with one of the error messages listed above (or you experience the other symptoms), this is a firmware issue with your router.

If your connection to one server fails, it is likely a problem with the network the server you are trying to connect to is operating on.

Troubleshooting

If you have a stand-alone router, bypass your router and plug directly into your modem to see if the connection continues to fail.

Linksys BEFSR11, 41 and 81 routers seem to be causing this a great deal with the latest firmware version available from their website. If you have the BEFSR11 or 41 router, you need to run the 1.45.7 firmware to solve this problem. The current firmware version that Linksys has on their website: (1.45.11) and some older versions (before 1.45.7) of the firmware can cause these same problems. You can download the known good Linksys 1.45.7 firmware for both the BEFSR11 and BEFSR41 V2 routers at:

LinkSYS Firmware Update
ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/befsr41/befsr_fw_1457.zip

ActionTec DSL Modems which encounter this problem will need to be replaced, as no firmware update is available.

Recommended steps:
    1. Disable QoS and uPnP. You need to go into the router and disable UPnP and QoS if it's there, and you should only have TCP/IP checked in the network properties for your Internet connection.
    2. Disable Wireless Zero Service (included in Windows XP). You can access these settings in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

Thanks Nuker and LLLL (via AIM).

However, it appears that my firmware had been updated when my father was on the computer, and it had been accessing the internet randomly. So, it appears, we will most likely be purchasing another router.
