I split this topic from the "I'll be gone..." or "Where I was..." topic, so now we can continue this discussion in its own habitat and let the rest of the community join in. I'll be majoring in Microelectronic Engineering, which is basically designing and building very small materials, now so small that they are measured on the nanoscale. Some computer chips being built now are less than 10 nanometers in length, if I heard correctly. And for reference, if you take one strand of hair and divide it into 100 parts, then divide that into 100 parts, that piece would be about 1 nm in length. |

Chemical engineers make the most money now. Civil engineering is probably the most popular. Nuclear engineering is the way to go if you want to join the Navy. Aerospace engineering will have you doing all sorts of cool jobs; my friend's father is one and used to work for NASA. That's a start. |

Yeah I want something that won't take me a grand total of like 5 years to be the best in the world at, because I want a career that will keep my interested for 40 years. So I've been thinking either Chemical, Nuclear, or some Thermonuclear engineering or something like that that is in the process of making a major for. |

Well you're in the right field if you want to do something that is going to keep you interested for years to come, but it is going to take a lot of work to get there. My major is going to last 5 years but I can also possibly get my Masters degree in that time. |
