I'm not sure if this goes here or not but oh well. I posted a little while earlier about this in the MCPD Forums but I'm posting it more extensively here so more people can see and comment on it. I was thinking that, perhaps depending upon the robbery, like maybe only bank robberies, that there could be a mod for police tape. And like, only law enforcement could cross through it, sort of like having keys, and everyone else would be stuck behind it. Now, the police would of course have to put it up, and maybe like there could be junction points on the walls in a right angle formation, kind of like a box, and police could turn it on or off like a switch. It would be kind of like opening and closing a large door. Anyway, this would help prevent the possibility of innocent bystanders interfering and/or getting hurt/killed and inflaming the situation. It would also aid in keeping back other criminals who may want to help in the robbery who aren't actually inside the robbed building. If there are people already by the robbery by the time the tape is turned on then just cuff them and deal with them, because they shouldn't be there in the first place.

It's also a realistic idea because police use it all the time to help when negotiating a situation. And the reason for turning it on or off would be to perhaps allow psychiatrists or family members or friends, what have you through to help negotiate if needed. And if someone else tries to run in who doesn't belong then just taze them and cuff them, they can't go anywhere, and if they persist in their actions then kick/report/boot/ban them. They shouldn't be there and they know it's not RP-like.

The reason I suggest this is because there have been lots of problems with people interfering with police negotiations, especially in bank robberies. Some examples including people shouting and talking and just interuppting when you're trying to bring the event to a close; there's also of course the criminals shooting, and even if you do cuff everyone in sight you still have to worry about others just running around a corner and shooting, and then random people just running into the robbed building and shooting everyone up or getting themselves killed.

It just creates better RP all around and helps to create a more realistic environment for Nukesilo TSRP.

Edit: I was also thinking that it could only be activated only when the server states that there's a robbery, this would prevent abuse.

Yeah, it would be kinda like turning a door on and off, but only able to be activated when a robbery is in place, if that's possible. We'll have to wait and see I guess when Dest gets working on it. ^.^

Ok I have written up the code on notebook paper (<3 school), and here are the features I plan to make:

-A Cop (Senior Officer and Up) says /ptape, and it places a 'beacon' or an object of the sort where he stands. Once he has place 4 of these, a police taper peremiter activates. Any Senior Officer of higher can toggle the tape on or off. If the cop says /removetape, it removes the tape. If the cop disconnects from the server (or dies, debating this), it removes the tape.

-Right now, there can be multiple police tape peremiters, but I think I will limit it to one to prevent abuse.

-Heads Admins and Myself will also have access to that (Head Admins for Head Admin duties, myself for debugging).

To LLLL: I have already made Head Admins (People able to spawn money/items) able to use this, I will check out teleport power, but I think it is the same principal.

Make it so the tape goes all the way from the ground to the sky so people can't jump into it. Also make it so the robber can go through.

Actually, during a robbery police are NOT going to be able to put down police tape (thats abuse, and they wouldnt do it in RL anyway). Only like after the murder of the chief in a hotel room or something.

Wrong. If the robber is trapped inside on a stand off then its called a barracade situation cause the police barricade the suspect(s) inside the building.

This plugin is Police Tape for a reason. It's to keep civilians out, not to keep robbers in.

You tape off the main hotel lobby if a criminal is in the hotels, you don't tape off the Hotel B Door itself. This is RP, cops might tell civilians to stay away in real life, but they would not use tape to stop a suspect. If you want to create a Police Barricade then you can do it on your own.

Seems as if this plugin might not be released based on the current standings.

well true, but you could just code it so the robber can move out freely, or the cop dies then the tape goes away.

How about the barrier dosen't actually stop people, but if they cross the line, it sends a notification to all cops and the person is eligable to be arrested and jailed

No, that wouldnt work. Its the same thing with blocking you, it would wreck the RP. If someone robbed the bank, and owned all the cops, he couldnt leave. Thats of course if once the cop dies, it goes away.

Thats your answer to the question of if it goes away after death, or not :O

I think I like Dest's idea best, I think what I was really going for was the barricade idea, but with tape, tape isn't an indestructible thing, anyone can just cut through it or jump over it. The point of police tape is keep the citizens back, like at a crime scene, and to let them know where they can and cannot go in a criminal situation. However, the civilians can still cross it, they'll just get arrested.

Perhaps it would be best to forego the tape idea, since it looks to be extremely complicated, and just work on a barricade idea for robbery situations?

Actually, now that I just saw it, I like Luke's idea too, that is if Dest still decides to create a police tape plugin, and the people are automatically arrested once they cross the line.

Thats the same thing as barricade.

Plugin is being made so cops are warned if people pass through the tape.

I am never going to make a barricade as that is just too powerful.
