Okay so you see a lot of job have been cut out, well some of them are seriously redundant. SWAT teams are small units comprised of elite police officers they are not a group to rival the regular police in manpower. The police do not require an investigative division if there is an alternative group for specifically that purpose, the CIA/FBI for example, what is simply needed is oversight for the CIA/FBI and have them cooperate with the police. You don't need three levels of administrative control, it is horribly reduntant and simply wastes time. The Cheif only needs on deputy not an assistant as well, Swat is not lead by cheifs, they have Captains or Commanders and are assisted by Lieutenants... they are a tight knit group and should not require several levels of command. One Commissioner is all that is needed, both SWAT and general duty police leaders report to him directly, he does not need a freaking entourage. Now for the FBI, they don't have an office and thus do not require regular agents, they in theory should report to the mayor and that can be handled by the director, his assistant should be the one getting information from special agents who in turn should be directing the senior andf field agents in a cell based system.

Police ranks come right from an official real life department.

SWAT ranks are also based roughly around real life, and so are CIA.

A full precinct has a lot more officer than the server does or can even support, so all the extra ranks aren't necessary.

I feel a more balanced approach would be:

Chief of Police: Four stars, similar to a full general.

Deputy Chief of Police: Two or three stars, similar to a major or lieutenant general. In larger departments an Assistant Chief position may also exist.

Inspector/Commander: either a gold or silver oak leaf, similar to majors and lieutenant colonels, or a gold eagle, similar to a colonel. Deputy inspector may also be used by a department.

Captain: two gold or silver bars ("Railroad tracks"), who supervises a precinct.

Lieutenant: a single gold bar ("Butter bar"), who supervises two to three sergeants.

Sergeant: a police officer who supervises an entire watch, made of two to three sections, and wears three inverted chevrons.

Corporal: the lowest supervisory position, who would supervise a section of six to eight other officers, who wears two inverted chevrons.

Detective: an investigatory specialist, usually working in plain clothes. This may be in several classes that correspond to higher supervisory and pay grades.

This is a good guideline for the server, simply because there are not many 'unnecessary' ranks.

It would seem that some ranks can be cut where you have Officer I, II, III, Senior Officer I, II, III. Why not just have "Explorer, Jail Gaurd, Patrolman, Officer, Senior Officer, Seargent, Leuitenant, Captian, Assistant Deputy, Deputy, Chief." with some offshoot branches and ranks for detective and SWAT branches that correspond with this hierarchy?

And the extra ranks don't really hurt, it doesn't clutter everything too badly... Sure they aren't fully needed for a tsrp server but its not causing an issue... Why change something that works?
