There was a recent windows update, i belive that was it.

Umm, one night windows installed updates while the computer was shuting down.

Is there anyway you can see what update you have?

Go to help and support in the start menu, than go to System update. Check there if you have any other patches to download, if not id say your pretty much safe.

This virus uses IRC to contact its host, it doesn't spread by it, not running irc will not protect you from infection.

mirc never trasmits virus by itself. DCC can, so never use that... never.
